SAN FRANCISCO—In the city of San Francisco, residents are not allowed to possess or discharge any fireworks as they are illegal per Section 1290 of the Municipal Police Code.

Section 1290 dates all the way back to 1938 and states: “No person or persons, firm, company or association shall fire or discharge any firearms or fireworks of any kind or description within the limits of the City and County of San Francisco. Provided, however, that public displays of fireworks may be given with the joint written consent of the fire Marshal and the Chief of Police.”

San Francisco is offering a number of free firework shows throughout the city that include the following events listed below:

Blue and Gold Fleet
This 4th of July Fireworks Cruise is a one stop shop for all of you Independence Day needs. The cruise will include music, dancing, drinks, snacks, and of course a great firework show. You can watch the fireworks from the bay at approximately 9:30 p.m. The sailings begin Monday, July 4, from Pier 41 at 8:00 p.m. and Tiburon at 8:30 p.m. You can also take the ferry to Angel Island and depart from Pier 39 at 5:40 p.m. with a departure from Angel Island at 10:30 p.m. Snack and alcohol bars will be available on the cruises for cash-only. Fisherman’s Wharf
Entertainment and music will be offered at the iconic Fisherman’s Wharf. The City of San Francisco’s Fireworks Show can be viewed at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4. Patrons can enjoy the show from the Aquatic Park, Pier 39, or Ghirardelli Square.

Premier 4th of July Dinner Cruise
Another cruise option for patrons that would like to view the firework show from the bay while out at sea. A 4-hour cruise offering dinner, cocktails, live entertainment, views, and fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m. The cruise departs Monday, July 4 from Pier 3 at 7:00 p.m. Boarding begins at 6:00 p.m. For reservations and information, you can call (415) 788-8866.

Pier 39
Enjoy the Independence Day festivities with the whole family at historic Pier 39. The pier will feature music by Tainted Love (The Best of the 80s live), and offer fun activities and of course a firework display over the Bay beginning at 9:30 p.m. For more information, you can call (415) 705-5500.
