SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, November 16, the San Francisco Fire Department battled an encampment fire on I-80 off ramp near South Van Ness after receiving numerous 911 calls.
Fire companies arriving on the scene confirmed a large encampment fire endangering nearby structures and stored vehicles.
The fire had many hazards including being on a busy roadway, exploding pressurized cylinders, steep slope, and large trees that suffered fire damage. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 1 hour. The blaze damaged stored vehicles, but the surrounding buildings remained unaffected. There were no reports of any injuries or displaced individuals. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
