SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, May 25, the San Francisco Fire Department helped rescue a boat in distress. Officials received a 911 call about a boat in distress. When units arrived, they found nine people standing on the boat while it was taking on water.

The SFFD and the USCG rescued eight people off the boat and took them to shore. The captain refused to leave his boat knowing it could be saved. After some negotiating between the captain and Coast Guard an agreement was made to wait for a tow to take his boat to shore and the captain was assisted back to shore safely.

There was no report of any injuries. The captain secured life jackets for all his crew which is required.

Winds on the water were strong, as other vessels were moving in the region. The SFFD worked closely with the USCG and San Francisco Police Department to make a successful rescue.
