SAN FRANCISCO―Authorities with the San Francisco Police Department and United Airlines were alerted on Saturday, December 10 of a bomb on board of one of the airline’s planes departing from SFO. One of the plane’s passengers claimed to have put a bomb inside a backpack that was on board.

The aircraft’s pilots were given the go-ahead to continue their flight course on schedule to the East Coast. The claim was considered a “nonspecific threat,” and passengers were not told of what transpired until after the plane landed at its planned destination in New Jersey.

“They didn’t say anything about this thing,” Arjun Shah, a passenger, told NBC News New York. “I just saw two cops when they landed and they didn’t say anything about this.”  Shah also stated that while not having any knowledge of what was happening while on the plane was shocking it did seem to make sense.

“It would just create panic on the plane so they did the right thing, I guess,” he added.

The United Airlines plane landed safely in Newark, New Jersey. Bomb sniffing dogs and officers arrived on the scene and searched the aircraft. No bomb or device was found on the premises.
