SAN FRANCISCO—Officials from the San Francisco Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection to an attempted kidnapping that occurred on Saturday, April 22. According to a press release from the SFPD, the incident occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. after officers from the Northern Station responded to an attempted kidnapping on the 2800 block of Steiner Street.

The suspect, Darrin Bravo, 46, of Cotati, exited his vehicle and grabbed the 31-year-old female victim. Bystanders in the region reacted and prevented the abduction, where Bravo fled the scene in his silver Nissan pickup truck.

Members of the San Francisco Police Department’s Northern and Central Police Stations, in addition to the Investigations Bureau worked diligently throughout the night and into the next day to identify the suspect and the vehicle.

On Sunday, April 23, officers responded to Sonoma County where Bravo’s car was followed. Assistance was requested from the California Highway Patrol, who attempted to pull over Bravo, but he continued to flee.

The suspect was arrested after crashing into another motorist in the city of Petaluma. The occupants of the other car sustained non-life threatening injuries. Bravo was booked at the San Francisco County Jail on felony charges of attempted kidnapping.

The SFPD indicated that Bravo’s quick arrest was a direct result of the intervention of witnesses who interrupted the kidnapping attempt and gave valuable information to responding officers. Diligent efforts by numerous members of the SFPD who were able to identify the suspect and locate him in another jurisdiction less than 24 hours after the initial incident were vital to solving the case.
