LOS ANGELES—On Saturday, September 5, #TheyCantBurnUsAll, an anti-racism rally and march, was held at Macarthur Park in Los Angeles.
It was founded by China Mac, a rapper, and actor Will Lex Ham in July 2020. They decided to establish the group when two men slapped and set fire on a 90 year-old grandmother’s clothing in Brooklyn, New York, on July 14.
According to the comments on @theycantburnusall, the official Instagram account, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there have been significant increases in hate crimes against Asian communities in the U.S. The primary purpose of the movement is to show their unification and fight back racism and xenophobia toward Asians.
“It felt powerful, it felt rewarding, it felt like this is what I’m here to do.” Ham also mentioned, “No one’s perfect. There needs to be room for forgiveness and for grace, not just talking about us but as a society overall. We need to find a common ground and move forward,” Mac told ABC 7 SF News.
Mac and Ham will hold a march starting at San Francisco City Hall on Saturday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m.
