Transgender Woman Murdered

SAN FRANCISCO—Taja DeJesus, a 36-year-old woman, was found dead on Sunday, February 8 after suffering multiple knife wounds.

DeJesus was found on the 1400 block of McKinnon Avenue at 9 a.m. A suspect has been identified in her murder, as reports have surfaced that the corpse of the homicide suspect was found Monday morning in a nearby warehouse after an apparent suicide.

At this time, it is not believed that DaJesus’ killing was a hate crime.

Initial police reports labeled DeJesus as a male, but those reports were corrected after her identification as a transgender woman was clarified. At this juncture, it is not believed that her murder was a hate crime.

DaJesus, whose family claims she was drawn to San Francisco because of its tolerance of transgender individuals, is remembered as strong-willed and generous, an active member of the Bayview neighborhood and a regular contributor to the community food pantry.

DaJesus’ murder is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444, or text TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.
