HOLLYWOOD—It was the penultimate episode before the mid-season finale of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” So just what happened in episode seven ‘Crossed?’ Well the gang was reunited in their quest to retrieve both Beth and Carol from their captors. As I pointed out earlier, season five seemed to revolve around the notion of humans vs. humans.

Humans can be brutal to those who are not human, but even more brutal to humans when its life or death situations. Daryl and Noah returned to the camp to alert Rick and the others what has transpired. Just as Beth reunited with Carol and was hoping to plan their next escape from the oppressive compound.

Eugene was slowly beginning to respond to being knocked out by a furious and hopeless Abraham. This group really has no idea where to turn next as Rosita, Tara, Maggie and Glenn decided their next plan of action. Maggie stayed behind to care for Eugene and watch over Abraham; the others ventured off searching for supplies.

Rick, Noah, Daryl, Tyreese and Sasha bickered about the best plan of action to ensure that minimal blood was shed in the quest to save their own. Beth came face-to-face once again with Dawn who continued to pull strings. Beth used that to her advantage to ensure that Carol wouldn’t fall victim like the others.

In their quest to rescue Beth and Carol, Noah was used as a diversion to nab a few members of Dawn’s crew. It became a tense game of cat and mouse, where at one moment our protagonists were winning, the next moment’s the villains as some would call them, were winning.

Daryl was literally on the verge of becoming a walker while tussling with a cop. So what saved the day, our vicious one ripping the eyes out of a walker and using its head to knock out his attacker! Yeah, it was one of those scenes that would force you to turn away from the TV screen for a few moments.

At the camp, Michionne had a brief conversation with Father Gabriel who continued to be on edge around the people who saved his life. He happened to tell a white lie to the samurai vixen; he still had the machete and was using it to plan his escape. As he fled the church, Gabriel ran into a walker that tested his fate; it was either kill or be killed. He chooses to injure the walker, but was not capable of taking her out. His faith might be the death of him.

Sasha and Tyreese shared a tender moment about her not being able to finish off Bob. She is a character whose emotions tend to get the best of her. She doesn’t think clearly and it placed her in a tricky spot in Sunday’s episode. We’ll discuss more on that in a minute.

Maggie did her best to breakthrough to Abraham, who was still not willing to bulge. He did however give into temptation and took a few sips from the water bottle. During the final moments of the episode Sasha found herself trying to help her captor, only to have her head crashed into the window. I was a bit on edge, as I sensed he might be shoving her out the window to a bloody fall.

So next week marks the winter finale, and I’m certain we’ll be bidding farewell to a fan favorite or two. Until next Sunday “Walking Dead” die-hards!
