Centennial Way Trail.

SAN FRANCISCO—A woman was sexually assaulted during a morning job at around 6:30 a.m. by the Centennial Way Trail.

According to Trail Link.com, Centennial Way Trail is described as, “The path of the BART line between San Bruno station and South San Francisco station. The BART, of course, runs underground while the trail doesn’t. The 10-foot-wide trail is paved with asphalt and has 2-foot granite shoulders.”  The total length of the trail is 2.85 miles.

The trail has a low maintenance area and various places of road intersection at: “San Bruno and S. SF BART stations (fee), Spruce Avenue just west of Huntington, Orange Avenue at Memorial Drive, Chestnut at Antoinette Lane, End of Antoinette Lane (cul-de-sac), Mission Road at BART Bridge * BART Drive across from El Camino High School and McLellan Drive at Mission Road,” states the website.  This allows various exit and entry points for the suspect.

The victim, 32, was seen taking a route north on the trail near Spruce Avenue, when the suspect came from the opposite direction and made contact.

The man was described to be a 20 to 30 year-old Hispanic male with a dark complexion.  His build was described to be around 5 foot 4 inches with broad shoulders and a small waist.

According to reports, the suspect approached the woman and repeatedly thrust his pelvic region towards the woman several times before running off.  The suspect was last seen running south on the trail in the opposite direction from the victim, towards San Bruno.

San Francisco has a high regard against sexual assaults and sexual offenders.  They abide by what is called Megan’s law, which is named after seven year-old Megan Kanka who was raped by a child molester living across the street from her.  To prevent similar tragedies, the state of California adopted Megan’s Law on September 6, 1996. An addition was made in California to give the public to view sex offenders on the Megan’s Law website.
