OAKLAND—Police officers from the Oakland Police Department were called to a domestic violence situation or a domestic disturbance, referring to it was a familial relationship between the shooter and the victims involved.

Police officers were send to an apartment complex on Friday, August 8, 2025 at about 1:30 a.m. on the 1000 block of West Grand Avenue in West Oakland. It involved one adult woman and two minor victims.

Police officers responded to a 911 call. Even though the officers announced who they were when they arrived the 54-year-old suspect, Jesse Fahrner, still shot at them. Eventually, the officers took control of the situation, taking custody of Fahrner. The victims were out of harm’s way when they left the apartment. There were no injuries involved in this incident. The firearm was recovered at the scene.

Fahrner was arraigned Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Oakland’s Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse. He has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney Office with five counts of attempted willful, deliberate and premediated murder of a peace officer, five additional counts of assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm and two counts of child abuse along with sentencing enhancements.
