UNITED STATES−Democrats in Congress, along with three Republicans passed the War Powers Resolution on Thursday, January 9. The unbinding resolution is intended to keep the President of the United States from making decisions in time of conflict without the approval of Congress.

The House of Representatives voted Thursday night approving the resolution which requires the POTUS to seek Congressional approval prior to taking further military action against Iran. The non-binding measure passed 224-194.

Rep. Matt Gaetz spoke out in favor of the President killing General Qasem Soleimani, but against war in the middle east.

“I spoke to President Trump today and he told me he’s more anti-war than I am. I believe this war powers resolution was worthy of support because it did not criticize the President. It said that if any President wants to drag our nation into another forever middle east war, it requires the approval of the U.S. Congress. That’s something I deeply believe and something I think President Trump deeply believes,” said Gaetz.

Trump for the airstrike that killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani ahead of the House vote on a resolution that limits President Trump's military action against Iran. Rep.
