SAN FRANCISCO—Adrian Dumont, 34, was arrested and charged with a felony for animal cruelty on Tuesday, July 14. Upon searching in the San Francisco Bay for a weapon used to the recent Pier 14 shooting, divers found the body of a dead cat in a bag.
According to Animal Control officials, the bag contained a 2-year-old tabby identified as Kazuma, who had been tied to a 10-pound weight. Kazuma had been injected a microchip, which allowed investigators to trace the cat back to its owner.
Dumont was released on bail and will be returning to court on Monday, July 27; he has pleaded not guilty to charges of animal cruelty. According to the district attorney’s office spokesman, Max Szabo, Dumont may face fines up to $20,000 and imprisonment.
