JACKSONVILLE, FL—On July 15, the U.S. Marine Corps issued a statement denouncing the actions of former Marine and congressional candidate William Upham assuring the public that this man, is no longer a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Upham is the former Marine who called President Trump the “antichrist,” calling for the death of the President.
“The Marine Corps is aware of the disturbing statements made by William Upham, who was medically discharged on May 30, 2025. The comments made by Upham are a direct violation of the oath he swore to uphold and are not in keeping with the service’s values.”
Upham who is campaigning for Florida’s 5th Congressional Seat in the House of Representatives as a Republican write-in, dressed in his marine corps camouflage, posted the following statement in video footage on his X social media page.
“For God and my Country, this is the motto for my campaign. I decided to run for office to fix our broken political system, to restore bipartisanship, return power to the working class, and to end our system of Washington insiders, extremism, and excuses from our current members. The full text of his speech is too lengthy to reprint, but is readily available on X.
The former marine quotes scripture and verse. In quoting Nehemiah, Upham used the correct dialect to pronounce the prophet Nehemiah in the Bible correctly. He recited the solemn oath he took when he was commissioned with the U.S. Marine Corps. He did not say he was still in the Marines. He indicated in his message that he believed Trump to be the antichrist and must be eliminated.
As a candidate for the U.S. Congress, he cites an old AI image of Trump looking like Jesus posted on X. The image was taken down soon after it was posted. Upham suggests that Trump likens himself to Jesus Christ and reminds the public of the President’s criticism of Pope Leo.
“This is a message to all of God’s children in our country. We must defend ourselves against all enemies. We are at war with evil. This is a war between God and the antichrist. There is no doubt in my mind that the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump is the antichrist. He’s a false messiah and he is your enemy and must be killed.”
Former Vietnam Refugee, and Acting Secretary of the U.S. Navy, Hung Cao responded to Uphams discretionary remarks.
“Unacceptable. William Upham is no longer a Marine and does not represent our values or ethos.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged the former Marine’s comments and quoted the law.
“Florida Dem congressional candidate and ex-Marine said Trump “is the enemy and must be killed. Under 18 U.S.C § 1871, this is a federal felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.”
