SAN FRANCISCO—BART officials confirmed that there was a fatality on 24th Street Mission station on the tracks on Thursday, September 12 after 9 p.m.
Authorities indicated that bystanders witnessed the individual voluntarily entered onto the station’s tracks. SF BART tweeted: “There is a station closure at 24th St. Mission due to a major medical emergency. major delays at SF stations in the Daly City, Millbrae, and SFO directions. MUNI is offering mutual aid on buses.
MUNI bus #14 and #14R stop at 24th St. and run between Embarcadero and Daly City.”
Cheryl Stalter, spokeswoman for BART noted that no foul play was indicated in the death.
SF BART tweeted at 9:33 p.m. on September 12, “We are in service recovery. We want to express our apologies for this service disruption. Our thoughts are with the impacted. We ask that all related media reports include this information: If you are struggling emotionally or in crisis, there is help. Call 1-800-273-8255.”
The name and age of the victim has not been disclosed to the public.
