SAN FRANCISCO—A fatal car accident occurred on Thursday, October 3 in the northbound lanes of Highway 101.

A wrong-way driver crashed head-on into a taxi that was carrying a total of three passengers including the driver. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The California Highway Patrol reported they received multiple calls about the wrong-way Volkswagen driver at 12:24 a.m. Officials were not able to catch-up with the driver before the collision transpired.

Authorities believe the driver of the Volkswagen was impaired during the incident. The driver has been identified as Emilie Ross, 34, of Hillsborough.

The CHP closed all northbound lanes and later re-opened two lanes of traffic at 5:10 a.m. All lanes were opened to motorist at 7:07 a.m.

The taxi driver has been identified as Berkant Ahmed, 42, of San Mateo. His passengers were Chicago husband and wife, Mary Miller, 57, and Judson Bergman, 62. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
