HOLLYWOOD—Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and Have Nots” has been such a guilty pleasure for viewers, it was expected that the mid-season finale would deliver with a load of twists one could only imagine and it delivered. We were teased that someone would die, but in the final moments Amanda (Jaclyn Betham) held the gun to several family members before a shot went off. Just who got shot? Let’s rewind a bit.

“Checkmate” was one season finale that upped the ante for Celine (Eva Tamargo) who did her best to reason with Jim (John Schneider) about his failure to be a father to Carlos. The housemaid unleashed a bit of rage on the mastermind who has little emotion for his newest addition to his family. She informed her employer that she knows everything, and pushing her could cause detrimental effects.

Hanna (Crystal Fox) continued to question Candace (Tika Sumpter) about her grandson, who she suspects isn’t dead. The religious matriarch did her best to get her daughter to see that Quincy used her son as a bargaining chip; finally, a heartfelt moment between the mother and daughter. It was an awkward moment between Veronica (Angela Robinson), Maggie and David (Peter Parros) as the Queen Bee marked her territory. She continued to suspect her hubby slept with Maggie (he didn’t), but David wasn’t able to prove his allegiance to his wife. Veronica made threats to her hubby not to return to their home, and that Jeffrey’s car would stay in her possession.

Katheryn (Renee Lawless) hosted her celebratory dinner with a sleuth of guests that included Jeffrey (Gavin Ross), Wyatt (Aaron O’Connell), Veronica, David, Jim and Amanda (Jaclyn Betham). Everyone was a bit stunned with the arrival of Jeffrey’s date, especially Wyatt and Mrs. Cryer. Wyatt made it clear that he was aware that Jeffrey was only cozying up to Melissa to protect him. David found it almost impossible to not say anything to his wife, about placing their son in such an uncomfortable situation.

David demanded to speak to his son alone, without Veronica’s interference. That woman is so possessive and evil; she is the mother from hell. He informed his son to stop hiding from the truth, and finally had an intervention with his wife and son that was long overdue. Denial is something that Veronica doesn’t accept well. She made threats further pushing her husband away from their marriage, and Veronica unleashed a bit of emotion for once. Poor Jeffrey.

The dinner party ignited once Amanda invited Quincy to join the party. His arrival took everyone by surprise, especially Veronica who was not pleased to see the man that she allowed to get out of prison early. The family was stunned to discover that Quincy was in prison for murder, and that he is linked to Candace.  It was a tense moment to see Jim trade spars with Quincy. He was aware that Jim was sleeping with Candace and it made him furious, as the two gentlemen got into a fight that left everyone reeling, after he revealed Jim was sleeping with Candace. That only unnerved Amanda even more, which is not good for the mentally unstable lady.

Jim demanded David get the goods on how Quincy got out of prison; the duo will not be happy to discover that it was Veronica who was responsible for their new nemesis’ early release. Back at The Sarandon Hotel, a drunken Maggie was confronted by David, who informed him that his love for his wife is wavering. Gosh, would these two just hook-up already. The chemistry is there, but David is refusing to give into temptation, at least not yet.

Back at the Cryer mansion, Jim and Katheryn were interrupted from their slept after Jim received a text and headed outside. Little did he know it was a set-up; he was kidnapped by a group of men and placed into a trunk. That was a moment that literally left me speechless! David reached out to Veronica, but she refused to answer the call, which gave David the cue that maybe his marriage is indeed over and he decided to enter Maggie’s room.

A crazed Amanda pulled the trigger on Wyatt, but fled his room and pointed the gun at Katheryn, but left the room and returned back to Wyatt’s room. She then re-entered her mother’s room, before fleeing and a gunshot went off. It looks like Amanda may have shot HERSELF or someone else, but it appears a Cryer is no longer apart of the family.

Jeez, that was a finale that delivered on all fronts. The tease is we have to wait till January 2015 to get so many unanswered questions, which is just so unfair.
