SAN FRANCISCO—The Lust Lady, the only co-op, employee-owned peep strip-club in San Franciscois closing its doors in two weeks, on September 2. The reason for its closure is due to the business not being able to meet the monthly rent.
While the business is owned by the employees, the building, located on 1033 Kearny St. is owned by Roger Forbes who happens to be the landlord of other strip-clubs within San Francisco.
The rent has almost tripled since the club’s opening in 2001 from $5,500.00 to $16,600.00 and has been behind as of April of this year.
The club tried to bargain with Forbes, asking to almost be split in half at $8,500.00. Forbes denied the offer and agreed to waive the rent if the club workers vacate by September 2.
Another contributing factor to why the Lusty Lady is closing has to do with the changing times within the industry. The services and visuals that the club offers can be accessed and viewed via the Internet in the comfort of a person’s home.
The Lusty Lady Club will have two weeks of send-off celebrations. There is said to be an unorthodox funeral procession down Broadway and Kearny Streets for the final goodbye.
