SAN FRANCISCO—An unnamed adult male became trapped between two BART cars at the 24th Street/Mission station on Wednesday, January 4 officials announced. The San Francisco Fire Department tweeted at 6:40 p.m. that they were in the process of rescuing the victim. Officials have not disclosed how the victim became trapped.

The station was closed and trains stopped running through 24th and Mission Streets after the incident occurred, causing systemwide delays. Upon being rescued, the man was semi-conscious, officials reported. BART wrote on Twitter that the station had closed due to a “major medical emergency.”

The man was taken to a local trauma center and is reportedly in serious condition, the SFFD shared.

Mission Local posted various tweets from BART passengers waiting for the delayed trains.

Updates on the victim’s condition have not been released.
