SAN FRANCISCO—The Golden State Warriors are heading back to the San Francisco Bay Area.  San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee released a statement on April 21 regarding the news.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome the Golden State Warriors back home to San Francisco with a brand-new, privately-financed arena in Mission Bay.

This new site on privately-owned land in MissionBay will provide a spectacular location and a more certain path to bring a transit-rich, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment arena to San Francisco. The new MissionBay arena will generate new jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue for our City.

This is a big win for our City, and I thank Warriors owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber for their continued commitment to San Francisco. Go Warriors!” The team is currently in the first round of the NBA playoffs at the Los Angeles Clippers. Mayor Lee is asking all Warriors fans to wear their Blue and Gold color and to participate in watching the game.
