SAN FRANCISCO—A new plant-based Italian restaurant named BAIA will be opening in the city of San Francisco on August 1. The restaurant will be located on 300 Grove Street, in Hayes Valley. It belongs to the Matthew Kenney Cuisine group, but will be partially private-managed. Before BAIA, the location was home to Jardiniere, which was a restaurant that closed in April, 2019.

Matthew Kenney Cuisine was founded by American Vegan Chief Matthew Kenney who is the author of several cookbooks.

On July 1, Michaela O’Malley, the Director of Marketing at Matthew Kenney Cuisine, told San Francisco News that the owners of BAIA are Kyle and Tracy Vogt; however, all the dishes are designed by the Matthew Kenney test kitchen.

Meanwhile, O’Malley indicated that BAIA will offer 100% vegan dishes to their customers.

According to a statement on the Matthew Kenney Cuisine website, the restaurant will start with the “A Taste of BAIA” in August which will offer delivery and takeout orders only. The restaurant didn’t give a clear answer of the date it will open for dine-in.
“The new concept offers carry-out and delivery service only in the trendy and distinctive Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco, the home of what will become BAIA Restaurant, when it is safe to do so,” read a statement from the website.
