SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, September 28, the San Francisco Fire Department reported at 12:26 p.m., firefighters responded to an active one-alarm structure fire in the 20 block of Crestline Avenue at Burnett.
The fire transpired in a six-story multi-residential apartment complex with below-grade levels. Firefighters began their operations from the lower levels of the building. They assisted several tenants who were in the process of evacuating. There were no reported injuries among the residents.
During the rapidly evolving operation, firefighters rescued a dog. Despite life-saving measures provided by paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department, including CPR, the pet died as a result of the fire.
The Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region was on scene to assist five tenants who were displaced as of this report. The fire was contained and is currently under control while an investigation is underway.
“A special thanks to avmultimedia for providing the initial few seconds of the video that shows the fire’s involvement when the responding units arrived and began their attack to extinguish it,” the SFFD stated on Facebook.
Fires at below grade structure are extremely hazardous for both the occupants and firefighters who work aggressively to ensure the safety of all. This is a reminder of having an escape plan and a fire plan ready for when DISASTER strikes.
As a result of the fire, multiple tenants were evacuating the building and stated they heard alarms and some cited notifications on social media site @citizen that notified them of the fire’s presence.
