SAN FRANCISCO—According to Walk San Francisco (WalkSF), a nonprofit that advocates to promote walker safety around San Francisco, it was confirmed on Thursday, December 18, that the 80-year-old elderly male victim named Hector Arana is the 16th pedestrian fatality of 2025. The incident transpired on the 5,500 block of Mission Street, near Foote Street and Naglee Avenue in the Outer Mission District.
By Thursday, December 18, the unnamed suspect remains at-large. The San Francisco Police Department is seeking help from the public, who may have witnessed or have surveillance video footage of the incident.
Officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident after reports of a vehicle striking down a pedestrian in the Outer Mission.
A little after 6:05 p.m., police officers from the SFPD and Emergency Medical Technicians arrived at the scene where they found an adult, male pedestrian, suffering from extreme injuries. The fatal hit-and-run occurred in Outer Mission. Despite first responders’ attempts at saving Arana through life-saving medical aid, he died at the scene.
The driver and their vehicle already fled the scene when police arrived, causing the SFPD to jumpstart a hit-and-run investigation on Wednesday, December 17. The names of the suspect and vehicle have not been disclosed.
