UNITED STATES—I used to be someone that loved to wrap Christmas gifts, but as I have gotten older, that nostalgia is starting to disappear more and more for me. The question to ask is why? Honestly, I think I have lost my patience. It was always a tradition, that 1-2 days before Christmas I would clear out all the presents I purchased from my closet and go to town on wrapping.

Yes, this is something that would take me hours to do, but it was my happy time. I would go to my basement, grab the wrapping paper, turn on Christmas music and just take my time and wrap. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m a pretty good wrapper. Why? I like the gift to look nice.

I’m precise about the edges, tape not being visible, and I always utilize a name tag. Now, I will admit, I don’t do ribbons, and I had always been anti-bow, but as of the last 2 years I have started to utilize bows because my sister convinced me that it takes things to the next level. As of late, I have started placing my gifts in a bag with tissue paper. I think for 2025, since I have so much wrapping paper, boxes and I purchase all these supplies, it’s TIME for me to utilize them.

Do I have some Xmas bags? Of course, I’m a big proponent to get those items now instead of waiting till later when you don’t have a chance to get those things because they are sold out. Don’t be stupid America, prepare in advance if you can. So, as I’m writing this column I have been convinced, I am going to do much more wrapping for 2025 than I have done in previous years. I guess, I just love the notion of being a gift giver. It makes people so happy and places the biggest and brightest smile on people’s eyes.

That warms my heart, especially when they are unwrapping a gift unaware what is underneath the paper. With a gift bag, it’s so easy to move the tissue paper and there is no suspense. I’m not always there when people are unwrapping gifts, so to hear the stories after the fact, just makes me happy inside. This can be a tough time of year for many people who have lost loved ones, so if you’re able to put a smile on one’s face with a gift that you wrapped. Why would you not want to do it?
