HOLLYWOOD—It is no surprise that the Weinstein Co. has filed for bankruptcy protection with a buyout offer in hand from a private equity firm, just the latest twist in its efforts to survive the sexual misconduct scandal that brought down co-founder Harvey Weinstein, shook Hollywood and triggered a #METOO movement that spread out to convulse other industries.

The company announced it was releasing any victims or witnesses to Weinstein’s alleged misconduct from non-disclosure agreements preventing them from speaking out. That step had long been sought by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who filed a lawsuit against the company last month on behalf of its employees. However, the Weinstein Co. said it entered into a “stalking horse” agreement with an affiliate of Dallas-based Lantern Capital Partners as part of its bankruptcy protection filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. That means that Lantern has agreed to buy the company, subject to approval from the courts.

It all started in New York, when lifelong New Yorker and “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon, 51, announced she is launching a bid for New York governor. Ms. Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbs on the HBO series, plans to challenge the incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic party nomination. The actress announced her plans to challenge the incumbent governor Monday, March 19 via Twitter.

So who is Cynthia Nixon? She’s an actress that played a career-oriented lawyer from 1998-2004 on the HBO comedy “Sex and the City.” She won an Emmy for her work in 2004. It was presented to her by President Trump, whose presidency she has recently railed against. Nixon married her wife Christine Marinoni in 2012. It all makes sense now, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio doesn’t see eye to eye with Governor Cuomo. Get this, Ms. Marinoni, an LGBTQ advocate, worked for Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio until she resigned a month ago. The couple both contributed financially to his mayoral race.

Cynthia Nixon.

The actress says, she has always lived in New York, but something has to change.

“We want our government to work again, on healthcare, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway,” Nixon said. “We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us. It can’t just be business as usual anymore.” Nixon, has long championed access to quality education in New York. Can she win? Let’s see, she has the gay community behind her, that’s a big plus. If elected, Nixon would become the first female and first openly gay governor for the state of New York.

Let’s look at the 60-year-old incumbent governor, who is chasing his third term, who has also touted as a possible presidential run in 2020. He has dismissed concerns about potential challengers in the Democratic primary on September 13. He doesn’t seem nervous about whoever runs. Allegations of corruption in the state capitol at Albany are likely to be dredged up ahead of Election Day in November. Govenor Cuomo’s close friend and former aide Joseph Percoco was convicted last week on corruption charges. While, the governor was not himself accused in the case, his name repeatedly came up during the trial.

Rose’s Scoop: Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, 77, has been knighted for his services in music. The Duke of Cambridge bestowed the honor on the Liverpool-born star at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. What happened to Britney Holmes on “American Idol?” The 28-year-old vocal coach, was dismissed. Very bizarre, she was one of the Top 50 contenders.
