SAN FRANCISCO—On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, around five in the evening, on Highway 101 Southbound near Cesar Chavez Street and Highway 280, a driver in a gray sedan was trying to back out off the highway near the transition ramp in their attempts to take a different exit but instead caused a vehicular collision.
Around 5:40 p.m., all lanes on the highway had been closed down due to the ensuing crash. At 5:49 p.m., an ALERT SF text/email had been sent out. Three cars and a SamTrans bus had collided on Highway 101, sending three people with minor injuries to the local trauma center. There were three more injured passengers, who declined medical attention. As for the SamTrans passengers, there were no injuries.
When emergency crew from the San Francisco Fire Department arrived at the scene, they saw four vehicles blocking two lanes of the highway and one person attempting to seek out medical attention.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) began treating the injured right there, alerting hospitals there may be an overwhelming number of injured patients coming. Although fire officials said the injuries of the people, who were involved in the accident, were critical, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said they were minor infractions.
Around 6:15 p.m., one lane had been reopened. By 7:20 p.m., an ALERT SF email/text had arrived, notifying people in the community that the problem had been resolved.
