SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, May 10, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) responded to a call of swimmers in distress at Ocean Beach, near Funston. The boys made it to shore. SFFD paramedics began life-saving treatment upon arriving at the scene.

SFFD personnel carried the boys up a 300-foot incline to an awaiting ambulance. Both boys were transported to an area hospital. One is in stable condition and the other is in critical condition.

Canyon News reached out to the Public Information Officer at SFFD for a statement.  The SFFD Public Information Officer on duty responded with the following statement:

“Time Of Call -2:08pm

Ocean Rescue on scene 2:10pm

SFFD on scene 2:12pm

Today, the San Francisco Fire Department responded to Ocean Beach and Lawton for a reported surf rescue.

911 Callers reported a fully clothed adult male entered the surf line to rescue a dog and, for an unknown reason, collapsed.

Two adult females entered the surf line and effected a successful rescue of this male and called 911 while providing life-saving measures.”

“@GGNRANPSAlerts Ocean Rescue arrived on the scene two minutes after dispatch and initiated CPR. San Francisco Fire Department and San Francisco Fire Paramedics arrived four minutes after dispatch, initiated advanced life support measures, and transported the adult to a local hospital in critical condition.

We are saddened to report that this adult male succumbed to his injuries. The dog this man rescued was able to exit the water independently and is OK.”

This is an unfortunate reminder not to enter the water for humans or pets but rather to call 911.
