HOLLYWOOD—Last season, “Sleepy Hollow” ended on a shocking note, with the revelation that Ichabod Crane’s son, Henry (John Noble) was the headless horseman. So where did season two pick up? Right where its predecessor left off! Abbie (Nichole Beharie) and Crane (Tom Mison) uncovering more clues to the mystery.

The series opened on a happy note, with Abbie helping a frazzled Crane celebrate his birthday; it was later revealed that the duo was on the hunt for the Horseman who was after a professor who had done lengthy research on Benjamin Franklin.

The audience soon learns that Franklin was not using the key to generate electricity, but to destroy it. It was a key to the opening for purgatory which Moloch has been seeking for a route of escape. During a visit to Henry (John Noble) revealed that Abbie was still trapped in purgatory thanks to Moloch and that Crane was still buried. Crane found a way to escaped being buried alive by using explosives and Jenny found herself at the mercy of Henry who read her mind to locate the whereabouts of the key.

Katrina was still being held against her will by the Horseman who was later revealed to be Abraham, who wanted her to become his one true love at all costs, even after she attempted an escape that left the horseman injured.

Back in purgatory, Abbie received help from an unlikely ally in Brooks (John Cho) who informed her of a way to Moloch’s lair and to use the mirror as a gateway of communication. It seems Brooks does have a bit of a soft spot for Abbie who has reformed her colleague to see things in a better light.

Jenny proved to be a force to reckon with as she took out multiple assailants in her quest to escape. Along the way she reunited with Crane who was happy to see her. Crane was able to converse with Abbie promising her that he would be returning to rescue; a promise that he would keep. During their investigation, Crane and Jenny located the key hidden in a brick in the clock tower.

Crane entered purgatory, just as Abbie feverishly searched for her amulet given to her by Katrina. Abbie was near certain she was looking at Crane, but it became apparent she was dealing with a doppelganger that she had no trouble taking off his head. How did she know he was an intruder, his accent! With escape imminent Abbie and Crane rushed back to the gate to shut the doors on purgatory before Moloch could have the opportunity to escape.

Returning back to the real world, forced the key to disintegrate into ashes, which means Moloch was forced to develop another plan to ensure his escape. So what did he devise? He utilized Henry and the Horseman of War to implement his new escape route. It looks like our heroes will be doing battle with a villain that will be unstoppable. So how do you stop a villain of such magnitude? You introduce a villain with the same capabilities. Looks like the town of Sleepy Hollow is in for a ton of surprises in the coming weeks! “Sleepy Hollow” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX.
