SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO—Police officers in South San Francisco shot and wounded an unidentified male who was armed with a rifle on Sunday, August 30. According to police officers, the incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Del Monte and Romney Avenue.

In a statement released by the South San Francisco Police Department (SSFPD), a resident of the area reported a suspicious middle-aged man standing near the intersection, carrying a gun. 

When the police unit arrived, the armed suspect was ordered to drop his weapon. The suspect did not cooperate with the police officer, and began advancing toward the officer. According to police, the man then raised a long object that appeared to resemble a shotgun, and aimed it at the officer.

The officer open fire, and fired one shot at the suspect, which wounded him and made him fall to the ground. The suspect was taken to the San Francisco General Hospital and remains in stable condition. The name of the suspect and the SSFPD officer have not been released to the public.
