SAN FRANCISCO—On January 9, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office disclosed that Taylor Reed, 29, was charged in connection with a shooting at a shelter on Fifth Street. Reed was arraigned on January 9 and pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied all allegations.
He is charged with one count of attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)), with an allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm (PC 12022.53(d)), one count of carrying a loaded firearm (PC25850(a)), one count of carrying a concealed firearm (PC 25400(a)(2)).
According to court records, on January 4, Reed allegedly got into an altercation with the victim in line at a shelter on the 500 block of Fifth Street. After the suspect and the victim were separated by shelter staff, Reed allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and racked the slide.
The victim pushed the shelter staff member up the stairs, out of harm’s way, and was shot at close range, allegedly by Reed. The victim tried to run up the stairs but slipped and fell to the ground where he was shot again, allegedly by the defendant who left the area.
Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department arrived on scene and the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He returned to the shelter and was subsequently arrested by SFPD without further incident.
Reed’s next court date is January 23, for the preliminary hearing in this matter. The District Attorney’s Office moved to have him detained pending trial due to the public safety risk he poses.
