Torture Charge Levied Against Transient

The suspect allegedly doused the victim in an unknown substance and set him on fire.

SAN FRANCISCO—A man believed to be a transient was charged on Christmas Eve for dousing a man with a combustible substance and setting him ablaze.

Damien Jones, 35, has been accused of attempted murder, aggravated arson, aggravated mayhem and torture for an attack that took place on December 19.

Jones allegedly threw an unidentified flammable substance at the victim as he walked toward a crowd on the 2100 block of Jennings Street in the Bayview neighborhood. The victim was allegedly lit on fire by Jones.

Sustaining blisters to his upper-body, the victim was taken to San Francisco Hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.

The motive behind the attack is unknown. Jones is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
