BERKELEY—The UCLA Bruins got their first win of the season after dominating the California Golden Bears 37-7 on Saturday, October 14.

Neither team scored until the end of the first quarter. The Bruins were the first team to put points on the board after running back Joshua Kelley carried the offense down the field with his ruhsing. On 1st and goal from the 5-yard line, Kelley skirted in for a touchdown.

The Bruins offense continued to play well, as they finished the first half adding two more field goals to their teams tally. The score at halftime was 13-0. However, it was after halftime, where UCLA’s offense erupted.

The Golden Bears started the half with a 12 play, 75-yard drive. Their longest play on the drive was for 12 yards. They capitalized on their momentum when running back Patrick Laird scored from one yard out bringing the score to 13-7.

UCLA responded with Kelley continuing to gain yards on the ground. He had an 18-yard run that set the Bruins up in great field position. Kelley capped the drive with a 1-yard TD. After forcing the Golden Bears to turn it over on downs, the Bruins continued to add to their lead.

Kelley would add another 1-yard rushing TD to his stat to make the score 27-7. The Bruins would add another field goal and defensive touchdown from a fumble return in the fourth. quarter It was a inspired win from the Bruins. UCLA’s first win of the season was an impressive won and head coach Chip Kelly can now prepare his team for Arizona next week.

QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA) finished 13/15 for 141 yards. RB Joshua Kelley (UCLA) finished with 157 yards and 3 TDs on 30 carries. QB Brandon McIlwain (Cal) finished 22/40 for 168 yards with 2 INT. RB Patrick Laird (Cal) finished with 94 yards and 1 TD on 17 carries.
