BEVERLY HILLS—The Daytime Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, May 1 and leading the pack of all nominees was the CBS soap “The Young and the Restless” with 23 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series.  Followed close behind was the ABC soap “General Hospital” with 19 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series.  Also competing in that category are “Days of Our Lives,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “One Life to Live.”

Competing for the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series are Susan Flannery “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Peggy McCay “Days of Our Lives,” Michelle Stafford “The Young and the Restless” and Heather Tom “The Bold and the Beautiful.”  I hate to say this, but this category has Susan Flannery written all over it, if there is an upset it could come from Stafford or McCay.  For Lead Actor in a Drama Series the nominees are Peter Bergman “The Young and the Restless,” Doug Davidson “The Young and the Restless,” Michael Munhey “The Young and the Restless” and Jason Thompson “General Hospital.” There is much love for the men of “Y&R” which could cancel each of them out, leaving an opening for Thompson who has been incredible in the past year on “GH.”

For Supporting Actress in a Drama Series the nominees are Julie Marie Berman “General Hospital,” Melissa Claire Egan “The Young and the Restless,” Jessica Collins “The Young and the Restless,” Katherine Kelly Lang “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Arianne Zucker “Days of our Lives.”  This is great news for Lang, who appears to be snubbed year after year by the academy, but secured a nomination this year for her riveting work alongside Susan Flannery.  If an upset occurs it could be from Zucker who was remarkable this year on “DOOL.”

Nominees for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series are Bradford Anderson “General Hospital,” Jeff Branson “The Young and the Restless,” Scott Clifton “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Billy Miller “The Young and the Restless.”

In the Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series the contenders are Kristen Alderson “General Hospital,” Hunter King “The Young and the Restless,” Jacqueline MacInnes Wood “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Lindsey Morgan “General Hospital.” Indeed a tough race here, with notable actress all capable of taking home the prize, but Alderson may have the edge.  An upset could come from Wood though.

For Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series the nominees are Max Ehrich “The Young and the Restless,” Bryton James “The Young and the Restless,” Chandler Massey “Days of our Lives” and Freddie Smith “Days of our Lives.”  Another tough category, but I see Massey perhaps as a repeat winner this year for his work on “DOOL.”

Competing in the Best Talk Show/Entertainment race is “The View,” “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” “The Talk” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”  Nominees for Outstanding Talk Show Host include Anderson Cooper “Anderson Live,” Steve Harvey “Steve Harvey,”RickiLake“The Ricki Lake Show,” Dr. Mehmet Oz “The Dr. Oz Show” and Rachael Ray “Rachael Ray.”

The 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be hosed on Sunday, June 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will telecast live on HLN.
