Town Hall Meeting Held To Discuss Fatal Stabbing

SAN FRANCISCO—Bernal Heights residents gathered for a town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 31 to discuss a recent homicide that transpired at Bernal Heights Park on May 25. A jogger passing through the park discovered the body of a man at around 5:30 a.m., and notified authorities. Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced the individual dead, after having suffered multiple stab wounds to the body.

The victim has been identified as 33 year-old Giovanny Alvarez, a father of four. The homicide has shaken up residents of the Bernal Heights area, which is known to be a tight knit community.

The town hall meeting was conducted by officials from the San Francisco Police Department to address concerns of residents and to reassure them that Bernal Heights Park is a safe area. The meeting was held at the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center.

The meeting which took place at around 6 p.m., was attended by Alvarez’s family who expressed their shock and grief at the death of their loved one. His family pleaded for any possible witnesses with information on the incident to come forward and contact the SFPD.

Authorities have not yet determined if Alvarez was killed in the park or if his body was brought there after he was fatally stabbed. The case is still under investigation by the SFPD.
