SAN FRANCISCO―The Nevada based startup company, Flirtey, founded in 2013,  which describes itself as “the world’s drone first delivery service” was founded in 2013, has come under scrutiny for delivering food and consumer goods versus saving potential lives.

In July 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved drone delivery and Flirtey’s drones after they were accompanied by a NASA controlled full-sized aircraft to deliver medical supplies by air to a clinic in Virginia. Flirtey’s drones accomplished two deliveries in July.

The company had a FAA approved delivery from 7-11 to a customer’s home; the first urban home delivery, and the first ship-to-store. In August, the company announced a partnership with the food and drink industry, including Domino’s pizza. The pizza delivering drone is only available in New Zealand and can only delivery within a mile radius of the Domino’s location in Whangaparaoa.

Chief Executive of Flirtey Matt Sweeney indicated “the next phase of our operations, where we are doing regular deliveries to select homes.”
