SAN FRANCISCO—Authorities from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) retrieved a man’s body from a creek in San Francisco’s Mission Bay park on Thursday, January 26. The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office have identified the victim as Mark Benson, 51, of San Francisco.

The SFPD received a report of the death after they discovered his boy along the creek on the 300 block of Channel Street. Officers removed his body from the water just after 3:30 p.m.

The SF Chronile reported that sailboats sometimes dock near the creek, in close proximity to the southern bank where the victim’s body was found.

The cause and circumstances of Benson’s death are currently unknown. Officials are still investigating a cause of death for the victim.

The SFPD did not provide any additional information on Benson’s death.
