OAKLAND―A person in a wheelchair was hit by a para transit bus and killed in an accident on Monday, December 12 in Oakland. The crash transpired at 40th and Adeline Streets, near the border of Oakland and Emeryville. The surrounding area of 40th Street, which is often heavily trafficked, was closed off as officials completed their investigation.

Reports indicated that around 5:30 a.m., the victim who was not in the crosswalk, was struck by the bus traveling westbound.The man died on the scene. The driver of the bus waited at the scene, as authorities arrived to begin their investigation.

The identity of the man has not yet been released by the police, pending the notification of his family. No further information has been released on the cause of the incident.
