SAN FRANCISCO—NFL owners voted almost unanimously on Tuesday, May 21 and announced that the San Francisco 49ers will have the pleasure of hosting the 2016 Super Bowl at their new $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara.
According to a blog post on the NFL’s official website, the decision “came as no surprise” considering colossal businesses such as Apple and the Gap said they would contribute a combined $30 million in order to cover costs if the Bay Area won the vote.
Miamisought to host the 2016 or 2017 Super Bowl games, but lost both years.
The 2017 Super Bowl will be held at Reliant Stadium inHouston,TX.
The $1.2 billion stadium is still under construction.
