SAN FRANCISCO—A 28-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries on Monday, March 6 when a parked delivery truck he was hiding under in the South of Market Neighborhood ran him over, officials reported.
The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on the 400 block of Jessie Street near Mint Plaza and Westfield Mall. Witnesses told police that the victim climbed underneath the truck to hide. The driver returned to his truck and, unaware that a person was under the vehicle, started it up and ran the man over.
It is unknown why the victim was hiding under the truck in the first place.
“We don’t know the reason why he was underneath the vehicle. The victim who was struck didn’t share that information,” said Officer Robert Rueca of the San Francisco Police Department told the SF Chronicle.
The driver cooperated with authorities as they completed their investigation. The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
