SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, September 7, officers from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) arrested a man in connection with a brutal attack that took place on August 4.

Joseph Huelbig, a 22-year-old Belmont resident, was taken into custody by police for an attack that occurred near Union Street and Buchanan Street around 1 a.m., according to a release on the SFPD’s website.

Huelbig, who is currently being held at San Francisco County Jail, has been charged with “attempted murder, aggravated mayhem, use of a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing great bodily injury,” as stated in the release.

The victim, who suffered severe lacerations on his arms, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and underwent surgery. Police reported that he has been released and is recovering at home.
