HOLLYWOOD—This series is so bad, that it is so good! I’m talking about the Netflix series helmed by Tyler Perry, “Beauty in Black.” When I first heard about this series I want to say almost a year ago, I was like there is no way I’m watching based on what I heard about it. After one episode, it turned into another episode and before you know it in a single night I binge-watched the entire season.

Why? I couldn’t stop watching; I wanted to see how things would unfold, and after the way season 1 ended: SPOILER ALERT, Kimmi had a major blow-up, and it was time for a bit of payback. Season 2 has dropped its first half of season 2 (I believe). I mean it was only 8 episodes, and the way things ended, I expect there to be more chaos because it was too big of a cliffhanger for my liking.

Long-story short, Kimmi has the keys to the Bellarie Kingdom thankfully to Horace. Horace has been very sick and knowing that things in his will would leave his empire to his treacherous sons, wicked brother and duplicitous ex-wife. Yes, they are all characters, especially Roy, and his wife Mallory who despise one-another. Why are these two even still married? Oh, money. Mallory has been running the family hair-empire, but now that those keys have been stolen things are changing.

Mallory is so fake and demanding I cannot put it into words. However, she is learning some things about her husband, and his father’s brother, Norman, and their shady dealings with Jules at the club. Yes, Mallory you have a bit of leverage, now use it to your advantage to get what you want. More on that later.

The Bellarie family was livid and speechless with the news that Horace married Kimmi giving her all the power that most of them had been using to exploit her. It was fantastic seeing the look on Roy and Jules face when Kimmi walked out of Horace’s hospital room and addressed them, with Rain and Sylvie by her side.

Yes, Kimmi and Rain are on the glow-up, but what about Angel because that was a major concern for me as he was arrested for being in that stolen vehicle where a body was found in the car. Not good. With that said, Horace pulled some strings to get Angel out, not aware that he was putting things in play to have Angel murdered courtesy of Jules who loves to toss his weight around. Luckily, a bullet intended for Angel, someone else took and Angel did the right thing playing dead.

There was a ton of mayhem, but when it all culminated, Angel was alive, reunited with Horace and ultimately Kimmi and Rain who were flabbergasted with the reveal. Yes, the trio were getting accustomed to living in their new digs and having access to millions of dollars. There was still plenty of drama with Roy discovering that Charles has been sleeping with Varney, the company’s attorney and it was delicious to watch Varney squirm a bit. Mallory was also aware of that intel but has chosen not to share anything.

Horace has implemented Kimmi, Rain and Angel into his will, but not Sylvie, Kimmi’s sister, who our protagonist rightfully pinpointed that she has to get her sister out of this environment to ensure her safety. Kimmi you are right, because your sister is no saint and got herself into a bit of a pickle that set off a chain of events. I want spoil them, but they’re a bit ridiculous and came out of left field for my liking.

Can I say there are redeemable people in this series? I dare to say know, maybe Kimmi, but even she has done some wicked things that are understandable considering her predicament. Some things just happen that make absolutely no sense, but as a viewer you just roll with the punches and follow the outlandish narrative that Mr. Perry takes the spectator on. Those with power using it any and every way possible to get their way, those without power, coming into power and striking back to get a bit of leverage and revenge in the process.

I’m eager for the back-half for the rest of season two, which will drop sometime in 2026. I want to know who else survives, who dies and who receives their comeuppance. The second season of Tyler Perry’s “Beauty in Black” is on Netflix.
